Empowering the needy to become self-reliant through humanitarian initiatives

OUR VISION

To see a world in which all Somali people live in peace, justice, prosperity and have full access to basic needs and resources necessary to achieve their human potential

OUR MISSION

To create sustainable economic development and positive social transformation for vulnerable groups and needy communities in the Horn of Africa through humanitarian aid and development initiatives that save lives, support livelihood and improve water, sanitation and hygienic conditions

OUR HISTORY

HARDO was founded in 1992 by a group of Somali intellectuals with diverse professional backgrounds, following the break out of civil war in Somalia which has lasted now for two decades. In 1992, the civil war reached its peak and left tens of thousands of Somali people in peril. Pervasive violence, anarchy and lawlessness continue to inflict suffering and impoverishment upon Somali people particularly the vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, the widowed, the very poor and the displaced. These intellectuals realized the vital role played by the very few local NGOs, who were working closely, at the time, with other International NGOs and UN agencies and their ability to alleviate suffering and engender hope

OUR LOGO

Our logo depicts a symbol of hope and a brighter future for the people of Somalia and Africa in general. Represented by the various colors, we focus on a variety of interrelated fields that bring socio-economic development and supports livelihood i.e. Water and Environmental Sanitation, Agriculture, Food security, Health, Nutrition, Environment, Emergency aid, Education, Development projects, Human rights and Peace initiatives.

WHAT WE DO

Since inception, we have worked closely with local communities in Somalia and made significant progress in addressing the needs of most vulnerable populations in the war-torn country. As a result of our work, families have been able to receive the much needed life-saving assistance during crisis, contributing to improve well being of our beneficiaries

To realize our mission therefore, we provide emergency relief to vulnerable people in war stricken and disaster prone areas within Somalia in order to save lives. We also implement a variety of development projects in collaboration with the local communities and with the support of international NGOs / Donors to sustain livelihood, encourage growth and positive social change for the people of Somalia

Our primary focus is in the following fields:

ORGANIZATIONAL GROWTH

HARDO has been growing and developing as an organization, currently with 100 employees specialized in different fields. We have so far expanded beyond Somalia to open offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Birmingham, UK specifically to assist the efforts of the organization in raising development funds. We hope to grow further and expand throughout Somalia as a strong voice for minority groups, the very poor and the rural communities.

Our key project staffs have received a series of capacity building training from different partner organizations. Organizations like CARE International and NOVIB-Netherlands (Known as Oxfam Novib)) prioritize and emphasize on building the capacity of their local partners. HARDO had benefited from these opportunities and we hope to achieve more in meeting our mission and in realizing our vision

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

OUR PARTNERS

As has been revealed in the implemented HARDO projects, we have over the years worked with many International partners in different fields that endeavor to assist the needy and empower local communities in Somalia for their self-reliance. HARDO has thus earned a trustworthy reputation among its local and international partners. This can be attributed to our commitment to strictly observe our core values and our willingness to render quality services to our target beneficiaries. Our philosophy of employing participatory approach is also an added value to the organization’s good image. We always involve all our project stakeholders including the local communities in all stages of project implementation, beginning from concept planning and designing to project completion. This has enabled us to build widespread networks and earned trust among local communities given the fact that these relations are a prerequisite for any successful intervention in the Somali context
